This is a compact, clump-forming, cormous perennial with upright, lance-shaped, narrow, mid-green leaves . From midsummer to mid-autumn, dark, arching, branched stems bearing racemes of funnel-shaped, red flowers with yellow-orange centers.A good fresh cut flower which is frequently used in commercial floral arrangements.Time to divide plants: March to MayFlowering period: August to September Medicinal use of : None knownOther uses : A yellow dye is obtained from the flowers and used as a saffron substitute for coloring foods.
