Its native range is from Europe to the Caucasus. Common names include Upright Clematis, Upright Virgin&#8217;s Bower, or Ground Virginsbower. This is an unusual species of Clematis, as this one in nature crawls along the ground. If given a few plants in the area to help support it, it will grow upright. It can grow to 8 feet tall and 3 feet wide. The 2-inch vanilla-scented flowers are in bloom from late spring until mid-summer. The seedheads are silky-like strings blowing in the air. Birds, bees, and butterflies are attracted to it. Zones 3-9 Germination Place your seeds and some soil in a ziplock bag. Moisten the mixture enough to stick together like a hamburger. Write the name of the seeds on the bag. Place the mixture in your refrigerator for 60 days. Seeds can then be sown into a well-drained, sandy compost and covered lightly with sand or grit.
