Lilium michiganense is a 9-species in the Lilaceae family. A native to Ontario to North Central and eastern Central North America. This wildflower is growing in prairie habitats in the Great Lakes and the upper Mississippi Valley region. In Canada, it extends through Ontario to New York. It can grow to 5 feet tall and 2 feet wide. The down-facing flowers are orange with black spots on recurved petals. An endangered species in the state of New York and threatened in Tennessee. A unique lily to have in your Lily collection. It prefers to grow in full sun to full shade. Bees, birds, and butterflies love this one. Zones 3-9 Germination Mix seeds and soil and moisten the mix slightly in a ziplock bag. Write the name of the seed on the bag. Place in the refrigerator for 30 days. Seed should be sown into a well-drained, sandy compost and covered to their own depth with sand or grit. Place the seed tray in a filtered light spot and keep moist.
