Salvia coccinea is an annual or Tropical perennial in the Lamiaceae family. A native to the Southeastern United States, Central America, Columbia, Peru, Brazil, Mexico, and a few more places. Originally thought to be a native from Brazil, but after some studies, it points toward Mexico for origin. It grows to 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide. It has a long blooming period from the beginning of summer all the way through autumn. The flowers are over an inch in length and pollinated by bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. They can grow in most soils well-drained. It prefers full sun to part shade and is a drought-tolerant plant.
