Common names include Flanders poppy, field poppy, common poppy, corn poppy, red poppy, and corn rose. It is unknown where it is native because it grows just about everywhere. It grows in fields, grasslands, and roadsides. It is second in pollen production behind the California Poppy. It grows to a maximum height of 3 feet but is usually around 2 feet tall and spreads out to about 12 inches. It blooms in late spring to mid-sum r. They prefer to grow in full sun with average water needs. Bees, birds, and butterflies are attracted to it. AnnualGerminationSow seeds 1/8" deep and lightly cover with vermiculite. Keep moist in a dark spot as these need to be in the dark to germinate. Do not cover with plastic and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 14-21 days.
