Giant Wild Lettuce, extra tall version harvested here in southern Wisconsin: Lactuca Canadensis. This aster family biennial grows over 12 feet tall underneath our 100+ year-old black walnut. Also grows in full sun, but this plant tolerates lots of shade. Likes turned soil… the birds love it and it makes a delicious bitter green forgeable. Full sun, full shade. I’ve nicknamed this variety, Big Manitou of the Woods. I use it for a fast growing hedge between some neighbors property. This plant is native to most of the United States and Canada.
