10 MEDITERRANEAN PERSIMMON FRUIT TREE SEEDS "Date Plum" Diospyros LotusDiospyros lotus is a Very Elegant, Ornamental, Small Fruit Tree with a Great Autumn Coloration. Green, Tiny Bell-Shaped Flowers are in Bloom from Mid to Late Summer. Native to China and Asia Minor, the Lotus Plum hosts a decadent, plum-meets-date flavor when fully ripe. The small yellow fruit, when mature, takes on a blue-black color (and is rather astringent until that point). Eaten out-of-hand or cooked into jelly, many commonly dry the Lotus Plum to entice its date-like profile, hence the name Date Plum. The Date Plum produces Very Sweet Tasting Fruit when Ripe with an Exquisitely Rich Flavor. The Fruits can be Eaten Straight from the Tree or Dried. This is an Excellent Food Source for the Birds during Winter. It's Fragrant Flowers appear among the Large, Leathery, Full Leaves. The tree is beloved not only for it's fruits but also for its gorgeous golden leaves in fall and deep green summer foliage. A deciduous tree usually under 40 feet high in this country, but probably twice as high in warmer climates. The Fruit has Many nutritional and medicinal applications. It is a species native to East Asia, in countries like China, Japan & It can also be found in the western regions of Europe, it also grows in temperate climates.Zones 7-9Persimmon Germination: 1) Persimmon seeds have a relatively low germination rate of 25 to 35 percent, so start multiple seeds to increase the likelihood of success with each grow.2) Wrap the seeds in moistened sphagnum moss or paper towel, then put them in a plastic bag or jar inside the refrigerator for two to three months. If the moss or paper towel dries out, spritz it with some water to keep the persimmon seeds moist.3) Persimmon seedlings form a long taproot early on, so they need to be grown in tall plastic containers that will allow the root to form without cramping it.
