These seeds were collected from Astragalus crassicarpus, also known as Ground Plum, buffalo plum, pomme de prairie, and Groundplum Milkvetch. Growing up to 2 feet high this plant likes to live in full sun where it sports colorful blossoms of white, tan, cream, purple, pink, and lavender. This is a larval host for the Afranius Duskywing, Melissa Blue, Meads Sulphur, Shasta Blue, Western Tailed-Blue , Acmon Blue, Queen Alexandras Sulphur, Southern Cloudywing, Silvery Blue, Reakirts Blue, Marine Blue, and Arrowhead Blue butterflies. It is also a food source for the Python Skipper, and Dotted Roadside-Skipper butterflies. The seedpod are picked before they are ripe and can be eaten raw or cooked.
