The common names for this plant: Perilla, Beefsteak, Shiso, Chinese basil and Purple mint, Wild coleus, Summer coleus, Korean perilla. This heirloom herb is a fast and easy to grow plant requires no special care. It prefers full sun and fertile soil. It is an annual plant but self-seeds to come back year after year. Price is for 50 seeds harvested from organically grown plants. Plant indoors 8-12 weeks before last frost or direct sow after last frost date. Seeds can be scattered directly on top of the soil. If you wish, you can lightly over the seeds by rubbing your hand over the soil after scattering the seeds, but it is not necessary. They readily self-seed in the fall. I received a Perilla plant about 18 years ago and it has been self-seeding with no care ever since. Seeds germinate in 7-14 days with soil temperature is between 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit.
