Costus scaber flower spikes emerge from the ends of the canes in late spring and summer. The tubular part of the flower is edible, and makes an attractive garnish in salads. This is one of the spiral gingers, with leaves that spiral up and around the stem as it grows (second photo). This is a perennial evergreen ginger. Root-hardy to USDA Zone 8. Can easily be container-grown in colder climates. This species will grow in full shade to full sun conditions.You will receive rhizome sections with leaves removed, ready for planting (similar to the last photo).
