Musa sikkimensis Darjeeling is a Tropical or Tender perennial in the Musaceae family. A native to Bhutan and India. It is called Darjeeling Banana or Hooker's Hardy Banana. One of the highest altitude banana species. It can grow as tall as 20 feet and 6 feet wide. The leaves are huge and can handle high winds. When young, the rib down the middle of the leaves is a light to dark purple but will fade as it matures. This banana is hardier than most banana trees. Flowering and fruiting take place from October to April. It prefers to grow in light shade to full shade. It will require water regularly to keep the soil moist.
